FORMER BBC Spotlight presenter Teresa Driscoll will be paying a visit to Okehampton Library to help aspiring writers. The presenter is touring many of Devon's libraries with the workshop 'Short stories: for pleasure and profit'. It is suitable for new and aspiring writers of short fiction and is a relaxed and fun session designed to build confidence and help writers to find their own voice. The session is pitched to suit a broad range of ages and experience but is for adults only. Absolute beginners are very welcome but the session will also help writers with more experience who need direction and a confidence boost. The tour is running thanks to a grant from Arts Council England. The funding means there will be 100 free places to aspiring writers. Teresa, who has worked as a freelance writer since leaving the BBC, has had dozens of short stories published in a wide range of national magazines. She said: 'This project means a great deal to me as I am passionate about encouraging other writers — especially in rural communities. I am also keen, in these difficult financial times, to help promote libraries as important community hubs for creativity.' The Okehampton sessions runs on Saturday, October 11 in the library's community information room from 10am to 1pm. To book your session, you can drop into Okehampton Library with a £5 deposit, which is refundable on attendance. On the day bring paper and pens.
