Devon League 46 overs

Chagford v Dawlish

AFTER a poor run, Chagford returned to winning form. Dawlish, batting first, lost 3 early wickets to veteran Jon Jenkins and looked to be in trouble.

However, May entered the fray with some forceful batting being particularly hard on the spin of Noah Wood, before Wood had his revenge by bowling him for an attractive 46.

There was support from Hammett (14), Lockyer (23) and Alcock (25) but there was another collapse and the innings closed at 157.

Jenkins was the pick of the Chagford bowlers with 4 for 19 in 11 overs, and Hutchings, Nolan and Wood supported with 2 wickets each.

Steele (17) and Owen (43) gave Chagford a good start. Jenkins chipped in with a quickfire 24 but Wood was the star of the show with an attractive 58 not out to see Chagford home by 7 wickets.

West Devon Cup semi-final

Chagford v Lewdown

In this closely fought 18-overs game Lewdown started slowly losing Worth quickly to pace man Hutchings but recovered mainly due to a fine innings by Burkett with 58 supported by Skuse with 27 to reach a creditable 108-4 in their 18 overs.

The Lewdown attack made Chagford battle all the way but a fine innings by Dell Owen (42) put them on the road to victory.

With some quick runs from Tony Niven, Chagford won with 2 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand.

The final is at Tavistock this Friday, July 21.

Chagford v Danbury (Touring)

10-over limitation per bowler

Chagford were well placed at 70-1 with both Don Cudmore and Noah Wood going well. However, Cudmore was well caught in the deep by Collins for a cultivated 29 and with Middleditch, Steele, and Crowther-Smith all falling for nought and Wood falling for 36, Chagford were reduced to 72-6.

Hulse 11 not out and Nick Rowe (16) effected a partial recovery but Chagford were out for the meagre score of 116.

Thatcher 3-28 and Mason 3-25 were pick of the visitors' attack.

It was always going to be difficult to defend this total but Nick Rowe and Mike Wreford started in fine style, and 5 wickets were down for only 26.

However, Graham Hurst and Thorpe began the recovery. When Thorpe was bowled by Moss for a valuable 15, Trevor Mason and Hurst entered into an unbroken partnership of 58 to see Danbury home to victory with 4 wickets in hand.

Hurst, batting through the innings for a hard fought 51, was out with Mason unbeaten on 33.

Nick Rowe 3-26 and Mike Wreford 2-16 bowled tightly in their allotted overs.

Chagford v London Hospitals (Touring)

A second poor batting display in the week by Chagford saw them lose 4 early wickets against a strong visiting pace attack.

John Middleditch, with a cameo innings of 20, enabled a partial recovery but the only stand was 62 between Jamie Rose (21) and Richard Sampson with a not out 59.

Chagford declared at tea with 131 for 8. Outstanding in the Hospitals' attack was quick bowler John Oates taking 4-21, being supported by Sanders 2-10 and Berry 2-19.

The Hospitals' reply was slow against Chagford's opening bowlers, Moss and Wreford. In the first hour they were limited to 40 runs. However, Archbold began to play shots all around the wicket but the introduction of Rose into the attack brought immediate results.

With runs coming and wickets falling it was set for an exciting finish. Archbold was well caught by Moss for 50 and despite a spirited 19 not out by Oates the visitors finished 8 runs short with 3 wickets in hand. Rose finished with 4-45 and Wood 2-35 as the only Chagford wicket takers in this low scoring game.
