Devon and Exeter Senior three Winkleigh 4 South Zeal Utd 1 WINKLEIGH dominated the first half of this encounter on Saturday and went a goal up after just 15 minutes when one of their forwards turned on the edge of the Zeal penalty area and hit a great shot into the top corner giving the goalkeeper Steve Pillivant no chance. All Zeal?s play was through the middle and predictable and Winkleigh were exploiting spaces on both flanks; they went two up after 25 minutes when a cross from the right was only partially cleared leaving a simple chance at the far post. Steve Pillivant in the Zeal goal was having a great game and but for several good saves the home side could have been more than two up at half time. Zeal re-organised at half time and dominated the second half for long periods. They gained their reward when Jeremy Stephens was put through by Harley Cann, his first shot was saved by the home keeper but Jerry put the rebound into the far corner of the net. Zeal pushed hard for the equaliser and hit the post through Jerry Stephens and Tom Reilly hit the bar with a header; however, they could not get the goal they deserved and pushed forward leaving gaps in defence that allowed the home side to hit them on the break twice in the last 10 minutes. l On Saturday South Zeal are at home to Tipton St John, ko 2.30pm.
