A YOUNGSTER from Shebbear College is raffling off a special sporting prize to raise money for a charity trip to Africa.
Sixth form student Grace Beal is currently studying for her A-levels, and is part of the college's World Aims Team, which organises fundraising events and aims to make the school more eco-friendly.
Grace is also preparing to go on a charity trip to Uganda with the college as part of a 14-person team in July 2013.
She said: 'I have always been interested in going to Uganda since the very first expedition in 2009, through speaking to people who have been.
'Also being involved in the World Aims group, we are constantly making people aware of Third World countries and the ongoing issues there.
'After giving in my application letter, I had to go through an interview process in the hope of being selected —luckily, I was.
'We will be going out there to teach in primary schools and to build sanitary facilities and wells to provide healthy and clean water for communities and schools.'
In order for Grace to go, she has to raise £2,500 for equipment, travel and accommodation.
As part of her fundraising efforts, Grace will raffle off the last two available tickets for the England v South Africa One Day International at Lords on September 2. Situated in the second row of the grandstand, the tickets were kindly donated to Grace by a family friend who is a member of the MCC.
Grace is selling raffle tickets at £3 each or £10 per strip. If you would like to purchase some raffle tickets, contact [email protected]">[email protected] or phone on 07788 508198.
