Lifton 0

Lamerton 2

LIFTON have made a relatively poor start to the season but put on an excellent performance.

Lifton began brightly with Matthew Endacott and Pete Rockell proving a handful for the Lamerton defence. But it was Lamerton who opened the scoring when Jimmy Cole headed in an Andy Williams free kick.

An even first half ended with that scoreline.

Lamerton pressed in the second half, being thwarted on several occasions by young keeper Dave Ball, who after pulling off some point-blank saves, guessed correctly to save a Williams penalty.

With ten minutes remaining Williams made amends when, in one of the few quality moments of the match, he left home defenders trailing down the left wing to double the Lamerton advantage.

Lifton continued to push, prompted by Adrian Edmonds and only a goal-line clearance prevented them from reducing the deficit.

For Lamerton, Lee Wickett battled hard up front and Steve Lethbridge had a solid game in defence.

This weekend home to Lee Moor in round 3 of the Devon Intermediate Cup.
