A TAVISTOCK estate agent is set to be arrested, charged and locked up for life unless he can raise enough funds to help him reach his bail.
Managing director at Mansbridge Balment Nick Henderson will be found bang to rights by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) later this month for his ‘cringeworthy impersonations‘ in the charity’s latest fundraising event and needs to raise £999 to pay his ‘bail’.
The accused is apparently renowned for his bad impersonations and even worse guitar playing, persistently showering friends, family and colleagues with his impressions of a ‘bad Basil Fawlty’, ‘ear splitting Elvis’ and ‘cringeworthy Cat Stevens’.
Nick said: ‘As part of Mansbridge Balment’s ongoing work with Children’s Hospice South West I stupidly said yes to taking part in this event. Being an estate agent I have a number of contacts and a lot of people know me and I’m sure there are many that would love to see me put in jail!
‘I like my Basil Fawlty impressions and I love to think I’m musically able but clearly that is not the case and the guys in my office will be pleased to see me arrested for that.’
Nick will be ‘arrested’ by officers from his office in Plymouth Road on the morning of February 24 and taken to a cell at Devonport Dockyards.
‘I’m actually looking forward to being taken into custody. The officers will take me away and put me in a cell and I won’t be released until I reach bail. I assume when I’ve raised the money I’ll be allowed to go home — I’d like to think they would let me out! Hopefully a lot of people will be able to get involved and help raise lots of money for charity.’
CHSW’s Jail and Bail is an entertaining courtroom event which sees fundraisers arrested, charged with their fictitious crimes and then placed on trial. If the jailbirds are found guilty they will be taken into custody, photographed and banished to the cells. They will only be released if they can raise bail of £999 from their connections, including friends, family and colleagues. The fun courtroom drama will raise vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West.
