HATHERLEIGH Carnival committee will be holding its annual fundraiser on Saturday, August 18 this year ? and is crossing its fingers for good weather, after two fantastic but slightly soggy events in the past. The duck race and ?island park party,? which has been part of Hatherleigh?s social calendar for the last two years, will start at 6pm at Island Park, by the river, and continue until late. This year?s theme is the Wild West. Committee secretary Linda Wonnacott said: ?Fancy dress isn?t compulsory, but there will be prizes for the best costumes.? Two bands will be playing at this year?s event ? local duo Rob and Dave, along with rock band Riffreign. There will be a children?s fairground ride to play on, and a rodeo bull ? with a prize for the cowboy or cowgirl who can hold on longest ? as well as lots of Wild West themed games such as hoop-la with cowboy hats.
