Torpoint 1

Lamerton 4

LAMERTON returned to Torpoint following the previous week?s cup game with three vital league points up for grabs. Torpoint came close in the first five minutes but the visitors were always quick to break on the counter attack.

The deadlock was broken when Paul Cowling burst down the right and hit a crisp shot which went into the net off the keeper.

Lamerton thought they had doubled the lead when a Panda Williams cut-back was put into the net by Steve Wickett but the ball was judged to have gone out for a goal kick.

Just before half-time Torpoint drew level when Simon Lee scored with a great shot from outside the box.

Playing with the slope in the second half, the visitors almost went in front when a Williams effort was well saved. A ball over the top of the defence from Andy Coe found Cowling who ran on to beat the keeper. This meant Torpoint had to push forward, leaving space at the back for Cowling and Wickett to exploit by each scoring a further goal giving the former his hat-trick.

Again Lamerton produced a sound defensive display but the final score was scant reward for Torpoint.

This Saturday Lamerton are home to Edgecumbe. Kick-off 2.30pm.

Calstock 3

Looe 1

FINE weather, a good pitch and with both teams wanting the points, this game was set to be entertaining.

Seventeen-year-old Barry Hemmett opened the scoring for Calstock with good individual skill. Looe hit back ten minutes later catching Calstock asleep.

The second half kicked off with both teams playing good football. Calstock?s Kev McCann made it two with a brilliant overhead kick that looped into the top left hand corner of the net.

Looe were awarded a penalty, but shot wide. The ball was respotted after verbal encroachment. Yarwood for Calstock saved well, diving to his left and shortly after made another good save from a one-to-one.

Calstock attacked and Barry Hemmett scored his second from a long difficult angle making it 3-1. Looe pressured, and Yarwood made a number of brilliant saves.

Man of the match: Michael Yarwood.

Lifton 1

Callington 4

CALLINGTON tore into Lifton with the intent of revenging their only league defeat this season.

Lifton?s keeper was having a busy evening, but a bumpy pitch and wayward finishing meant he was not beaten until the 30th minute.

Smith found some space on the edge of the penalty area and drilled a low shot wide of the keeper. Callington were in control but had to be on guard with long hopeful kicks from Lifton and a lively centre forward harassing the defence.

The second half saw Adam Reid score with a close range header from a Smith free kick. Lifton were gifted a penalty after a nothing challenge from Adam Reid.

Floyd was booked for disputing a referee?s decision. An own goal made the game safe for Callington and Hartly put the result beyond doubt when he finished off a good move to keep his side?s push for the top on course.

Callington Thirds 6

Edgecombe 0

PLAYING with a strong breeze at their backs, Callington got their tactics wrong in the first half. They dominated but persisted in the long ball toward the eager and strong running of Brown. However, with most of the passes being over-hit, he was unable to get into the game. Egdecombe?s forward game was poor and Callington?s defence, with Canham dominating the high balls, coped easily.

In the second half Callington?s game plan took on a different look. Playing to feet, Callington were making the Edgecombe keeper work. The breakthrough came when Reid found space in the penalty area and coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

A Tony Truscott free kick from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner was enough for Edgecombe.

A superb effort from Truscott from 30 yards out bounced high into the net with the keeper stranded. A magnificent cross from McPherson was headed in by Martin for the fourth. Holloway, on for the last 20 minutes, deflected a wayward shot into the net and Floyd wrapped things up with the sixth.
