Bodmin 1

Tavistock Ladies 1st 0

FRESH from their 3-0 victory over Truro last week, Tavistock ladies hockey team set off to meet Bodmin.

Team spirits were running high despite missing key players and only managing to field ten.

Tavistock controlled the first half with skilful play from Susannah Harland, Kathryn Collar, Mel Vaggars, Judy Smallacombe and Sue Cork, but failed to find the back of the net.

Tavistock's youngest player, Laura Armstrong, had the best strike only to be denied by the goalpost.

In the second half, Tavistock again appeared in control, but a sloppy loose ball saw Bodmin surge forward and break through Tavistock's defence.

Keeper Julie MaGowan made two fine saves only to be beaten by the third strike which hit her pad and dribbled over the line into the goal.

Tavistock were dealt another blow when Mel Vaggars was forced to leave the pitch with a nasty ankle injury.

But thanks to the sound defence of Mary Johnston, Fiona Dunn and the keen eye of goalie Julie MaGowan Bodmin were kept at bay. Tavistock were unlucky to lose.

Player of the match: the whole team.
