A WEST Devon nursery is celebrating after scooping a coveted gold medal at a prestigious national flower show. Bowden Hostas from Sticklepath won the medal in the floral marquee at the Three Counties Show at Malvern ? the only gold medal for hostas at the event. Tim and Ruth Penrose of Bowden Hostas beat off competition from six other hosta stands and are delighted with their success. They are now working hard to prepare for the Chelsea Flower Show where they hope to emulate the gold medal they won last year. Tim said: ?Three days? preparation went into building the 200 square foot stand, which displayed driftwood and a calming pond.? But the hard work obviously paid off ? sales by Bowden Hostas increased by 40% on last year?s figures at Malvern. There will be a different addition to Chelsea from the nursery this year ? a six-and-a-half foot slug to promote Tim?s book called ?Slugbusters ? Something strange in your hosta bed? Who?re you going to call? Slugbusters!?
