pupils at Mount House School enjoyed the chance to show off the farm fresh eggs they had collected as well as the end product — a freshly baked quiche!
The two featured hens, Peggy and Sue, are two of the best producers on the Mount House School Farm — involvement in the farm is part of the DT curriculum, providing knowledge of and practical skills relating to animal husbandry, horticulture, recycling and sustainable energy production.
This term pupils are working with chickens, guinea fowl, quail, alpaca, pigs, and ducks, feeding and looking after them, and are involved in constructing a variety of animal shelters as well as a bird watching area, mini-bug shelters, a sustainable energy building and a duck run.
The pupils are also learning horticulture skills as they sow and tend a variety of fruits and vegetables.
