BRINGING the Princetown community together last Sunday was a village fete and fun day organised by the local youth. Hundreds of people enjoyed the special day, from local residents and organisations, to visitors who were on holiday to Devon. Princetown Pavilion Youth Club organised the day, which saw a music stage, street dance, a mobile rock climbing tower, an infinity tower, under fives activities, and traditional fete games. Food stalls with produce grown by the young people of the club, a barbecue, and refreshments were also on offer — and proved a huge success to all who sampled! One of the food sections at the fair saw a home made cream tea, featuring hand-made scones and hand-made strawberry jam, made from hand-picked strawberries from Luke's Strawberry Farm, and cooked by the youth. Adrian Kemp, secretary of the youth club committee, said the youth club led and fundraised for the event, but it was also made possible thanks to grants from Awards for All and Comic Relief. He said: 'The day was about community engagement for the youth club and to show the young people in a positive light. The feedback has been very positive and a number of people want it to run forward to next year.' Wendy Stones, chair of the youth club, said: 'I thought it was brilliant and it was a good day for the local businesses as well. From the young people and the people in the village we all thought it was a brilliant event.' Pam Carter, youth worker for Princetown, said the youngsters had been hard at work organising the event: 'I want to say a big thank you to all the youth and to the bands who played during the day — you all did a fantastic job. What a great day!'
