THERE were mixed fortunes for the Okehampton Otters Swimming Club members who took part in the last blocks of the Devon swimming championships.
Firstly, Jenny Rice swam in two events. She competed in the 4x100m individual medley and the 200m freestyle in the 16 years age group.
Although not gaining pb times in these she did well enough to finish tenth in the im and eighth in the free.
Matthew Westlake swam a well controlled 200m free. He erased a massive 19 seconds from a time achieved in November and his finishing place was twelfth.
On Sunday the club had its first taste of relay action with a team entering the Devons for four years.
The 11/12 years boys' team competed in the 4x 50m medley relay and the 4x50m free relay.
The medley team is quite strong and swam a time that would have put them in seventh place.
Unfortunately, they were disqualified for an early change in one of the legs. The freestyle team managed to stay within the rules and came home in eleventh place.
However, with four of the team able to stay in the age group again next year they can only have benefited by gaining some experience of the competition .
