TO the West Devon refuse collection employees: the last few weeks have given them many problems, with what appears to be a complicated re-cycling service, snow and black ice and ten days of holidays.

However, on Sunday January 9, with unexpected black ice, the re-cycling vehicle appeared at Bishopsmead to complete the collection for the previous week.  I take off my (woolly) hat to them  — thank you.

AS everybody knows there has been much criticism in the media about delays in collection of items for recycling and waste over the Christmas and New Year period.

Much of this appears to be justified.

Therefor I would like to praise West Devon Borough Council and all the employees for the way they dealt with this matter in atrocious weather conditions.

I understand what was being done throughout the whole period, often until well into the evening.

Also, I believe at least two key personnel were ill, of whom despite the fact that all her family were unwell, continued working from her home.
