A TEENAGER from Grenofen who overcame considerable odds to complete her A-Level studies received her long awaited results last week.

Registered blind, Heather Siewruk, who attended City College Plymouth, has been partially-sighted since the age of six due to hereditary disorder, Stickler's Syndrome.

The 19-year-old already has two A-Levels under her belt, with two C grades in English and sociology — and now has two Cs for classical civilisation in Greek literature and Roman history and an E in psychology.

'I would have wanted to get a better grade in psychology but I got what I needed to get into university so I am really pleased,' said Heather.

She will be off to the University of Plymouth this September to study sociology and international relations.

It has been a long haul for Heather, who began her studies in 2005, but she has not allowed her sight difficulties to stand in the way of making the grade academically.

Because of her disability, Heather was allowed six hours to complete her exams using a laptop and specialist magnifying software, and also a helper on hand at all times.

Heather said: 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at City College Plymouth and everyone, staff and friends alike, have been a tremendous support to me.

'I shall be sorry to leave, but equally I am really looking forward to continuing my studies at the University of Plymouth — at least I won't be too far away.'
