KELLY College 1st XI were delighted to welcome the MCC to the school on May 3. The MCC team comprised of seasoned players and younger players hoping to fast track the 30 year waiting period to join the MCC. The MCC were invited to bat first, at the lunch interval openers Sutcliff and Osbourne had reached 90 for no wicket. After the break both openers reached their 50s before Sutcliff was run out for 83 and Osbourne was bowled by skipper Hall for 73. The MCC declared their innings on 176 for 2. All the Kelly bowlers stuck to their task manfully especially Koranteng, Hall and O Thomas who bowled beautifully. The young Kelly opening batsmen Webb and Johnston had to contend with the MCC opening bowlers J Rhodes and Q Andile, who would grace any premiership side, both bowling fast and acurately. Although wickets fell at regular intervals none of the Kelly batsmen shirked from their responsibility combining resolute defence with flowing attacking shots at the odd loose ball. Fifteen year old Nathan Probert tipified this holding the middle order together. With 10 overs remaining and the re-introduction of Andile, who is Tavistock CC?s overseas player this year, things looked bleak with only Kelly?s last two batsmen remaining, but Hobbs 13 not out and Morrish 9 not out held firm ensuring a draw for Kelly. Kelly A XI v Grenville 1st XI Kelly entertained Grenville College and invited the vistors to bat first. Kelly?s opening bowlers Koranteng and R Thomas reduced the visitors to 20 for 6. The introduction of Kelly?s part time bowlers offered some respite but the away side stuttered to 53 all out. This small total was no test for the Kelly batsmen with Alex Pickard scoring the majority of the runs ensuring a comfortable 7 wicket victory. Kelly U13s v Grenville College U13s After losing the toss Giles Kisby and Jonathan Elliott opened the batting. Grenville?s opening bowler soon dismissed Kelly?s top three batsmen. Fortunately James Macfarlane took control at the crease and smashed an impresive 42, Josh Warne made a careful 15 enabling Kelly to reach a satisfying 113. William Gray and Josh Stewart opened the bowling for Kelly reducing Grenville to 25 for 4. At this stage the Grenville batsmen played some aggressive shots and began to threaten the Kelly score, fortunately a very tidy spell from Kisby and especially Elliott restricted the visitors who finished their 25 overs at 92 for 5 leaving Kelly the victors.
