A NEW project has been launched by Dartmoor National Park Authority, which aims to help visitors to the park understand and enjoy the moorland wildlife.

The Wealth of Wildlife project will work with accommodation providers such as hotels, camp sites and bed and breakfast establishments within the national park, to carry out wildlife surveys.

Participants will receive a file containing information on the wildlife at each site and in the local area, enabling guests to identify their own sightings and record their wildlife encounters.

Sue Searle, Wealth of Wildlife officer, said: ?This is a really exciting project. I have received very positive comments from the accommodation providers I have visited so far and they are looking forward to receiving their files.

?Many of the sites have a remarkable diversity of wildlife right on their doorsteps and being able to enjoy and understand this diversity enhances the holiday experience and helps encourage sustainable tourism in Dartmoor National Park.?

Thirty selected accommodation providers will take part in the pilot project, which will run for 80 days over the next six months.
