Okehampton U16s 27

Exeter Saracens U16s 14

OKEHAMPTON fielded a weaker side due to county games, but started with a lot of commitment.

Saracens put Okehampton under pressure and over-eager play gave Saracens the first points of the day through a penalty.

Okehampton came back, driving Exeter Saracens within ten metres of their line. Quick ruck ball and driving mauls led Okehampton?s Sam Turner to come straight back to score a try.

The ball was sent wide to the wings to let Saracens? centres break through to spin it wide for their winger to score.

Good defending and scrummaging by Okehampton kept Saracens in their half until Dean Beardon scored off the wing ending the first half 10-8 to the Okes.

The second half started with lots of quick play from Saracens? backs and forwards which led Okehampton to infringe offside, within kicking range and Saracens kicked a penalty.

Okehampton settled to play a more confident second half, not giving away penalties and spinning the ball to the centres and wings.

Johnny Hutchins ran out round the wings and fed the ball inside for Jack Preston to score, converted by Stewart Down.

Okehampton kept pressure on with forwards Matt West and Ian Brooks catching good lineout ball, and good scrummaging winning the opposition ball. Tom Bird ran some good positional play to let Simon Cox in for a try.

Saracens could only come back with a penalty.

Okehampton pinned Saracens in the corner and from a lineout caught and drove only to be held up over the line.

From a five-metre scrum Okehampton?s Tom Bird broke blind, feeding Simon Cox inside to score his second try, ending Okehampton?s second league match 27-14.

This week home against Exmouth, a league game. Kick-off 11am.
