NURSERY nurse Veronica Bubear enjoyed a VIP send off last week, when she retired from Okehampton Primary School after 28 years.

Staff and former colleagues joined Veronica in the school?s music and drama hall for a celebratory lunch last Thursday.

Headteacher Brian Cunningham said Veronica was first appointed to the school as a nursery nurse in 1974.

Mr Cunningham said: ?She is very highly regarded by her colleagues, governors and the parents.

?She always puts the children first, she loves them, and that love had always been returned.?

Mr Cunningham said Veronica first worked at the school?s old site, at what she described as her ?dear little nursery?.

She was involved in the design and planning for the premises at the new site, where she has worked since the move.

Mr Cunningham said there were bound to be mixed emotions after leaving the school after such a long time and that Veronica would miss the children, but that he appreciated the time was right for her to leave.
