A BUNCH of hardy souls from the Hatherleigh area are getting ready for their annual fundraising moments of madness on New Year's Day.
Hatherleigh Walruses, complete with goosebumps, take a sponsored dip in the river for charity on the first day of the year, usually raising substantial sums for good causes.
Walrus Sandra Collier said: 'We sit in the river for about five minutes and all the money goes to charity.
'This year the money is being split between the cricket club and play areas in the town — the theme this year is the Olympics!'
The fun and games start around 2.45pm on New Year's day, with the dip taking place at 3pm.
Sandra said: 'Normally we raise about £2,000 — for five minutes work it's pretty good!'
