OKEHAMPTON volunteer walk leaders (pictured left) were presented with ?Walk and Talk? sweatshirts at the start of the new weekend walks on October 3.
South West Forest and Hatherleigh Rotary Club donated £75 each towards the sweatshirts, which were obtained from Freedom Sports.
The Walk and Talk scheme is operated by volunteers and was introduced last October to encourage people of all ages and abilities to walk for their health in a sociable way. The walks are free, and every Tuesday there are short walks of 30 to 40 minutes on fairly even ground, meeting outside Waitrose at 10.30am. These walks are for people who currently do no physical activity and are also suitable for people recovering from illness or surgery.
There are more moderate walks of 60 to 90 minutes every Wednesday, starting outside the post office at 10am, which can be on uneven ground with some steep inclines. New this year are the moderate walks which start outside the West Devon Borough Council offices at 2pm on the first Sunday in the month.
New volunteers are always welcome and are offered free training. For more information on the walks or volunteering contact Helen on 01884 244609.
