Mountain rescue volunteers used their roping skills to join a multi-agency effort at Lydford Gorge after a man fell into a river.

Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team Tavistock’s (DSRT) roping experts to lift a man who was injured falling from a tree on Saturday, October 3.

The team joined fire and ambulance units in resolving the incident.

A DSRT spokesman said: “We were called today at 12.37 on Saturday to assist in the extraction of a male who had fallen from a tree into the river at the head of Lydford Gorge, sustaining an injury to his ankle.

“South Western Ambulance Trust personnel were already with him and had administered analgesia. Members of our rope cadre set up a rope system to ensure security of the stretcher prior to the casualty being carried up the steep slope.”

DSRT members then transferred him to a waiting ambulance. It was a successful multi-agency response involving several emergency services.
