THE proposal for a public car park behind the Drewe Arms at Drewsteignton has been deferred until members of the Dartmoor National Park Authority have visited the site.

The DNPA recommended that the plan by the parish council be approved, but 13 letters of objection were sent to the authority.

Objectors said that there was no need for the new park, that it would be an eyesore and it would encourage more people to leave their cars in the village. They also argued that it would damage the beauty of the village.

The DNPA agreed with the parish council that parking in the village was very limited and the problem was worse in the summer.

The need for a car park had been recognised in the Local Plan and this was the only available site, which had been acquired by the parish.
