PEOPLE are being encouraged to use park and ride schemes on Goose Fair Day (October 11) in Tavistock, as car park facilities in the town will be very limited. From this Saturday, the Bedford and Wharf car parks will be given over to fairground rides for a week and on fair day itself the borough council?s car parks in Russell Street, Chapel Street and Riverside will also be closed, so too will Tavistock Bus Station. There will be park and ride schemes operating from Yelverton Aerodrome, Lumburn Rise on Callington Road and Harford Bridge Holiday Park on the Peter Tavy Road. Frequent bus services will run between 9am and 10pm. A small wheelchair access bus will work from the Yelverton site. Tavistock Town Council said a scheme to amend traffic routes and flows would be introduced for the day as in previous years and there would be a high police presence. Illegally parked vehicles or vehicles causing an obstruction would be dealt with without delay. All car parks except the Bedford and the Wharf will reopen as normal on October 12.
