COMMUNITIES throughout the Tamar Valley area will discover how to delve deep into their history and heritage this summer, thanks to a tour of the successful 'Uncovering the Past' exhibition, that began in January this year.

The exhibition, celebrating the end of a two-year project that provided opportunities for the community of Calstock to study their heritage, attracted over 350 visitors earlier this year during its time at the Tamar Valley Centre, near Gunnislake.

Uncovering the Past will now continue its journey, to showcase and highlight the wealth of events and training that were made available to local people, thanks to a grant of £35,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), awarded to the Calstock Parish Heritage Project in October 2010.

The next venue opening its doors is the Manor House Inn, Rilla Mill, from May 21-25. Visitors are welcome to drop in at any time between 11.30am and 3pm and 5.30pm and 9pm to learn more about the Calstock community's experience and the full stories behind what was uncovered during the project, including results from the 2011 Calstock Roman fort excavation.

Samantha Barnes, project officer for the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, will give a talk on the project and answer any questions people may have at the Manor House Inn on May 20 at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

Uncovering the Past is also on show in Calstock Village Hall on June 1, at the Old Chapel in Calstock from June 2 to 4 and tea and cakes will be available between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday, June 2.

Call 01822 835030 or email: [email protected]">[email protected] nearer the time for full details of opening times.

If anyone is interested in hosting 'Uncovering the Past' to encourage their community to find out how to learn more about the heritage near them Samantha would love to hear from them.

The exhibition can be tailored to suit the size of your setting.
