Sidmouth U15s 5 Okehampton U15s 36 WITH good quality ball the Okehampton backs started to find gaps in the defence. Centres Carl Poynton and Carl Goodall set up the first try for wing Dan Gills. The next two tries were superb, with almost every player involved. Goodall scored first and full-back Jake Chisholm scored the second. Poynton converted all three for a 21 point lead. Okehampton should have run riot in the second half but some of the players switched off and the game became very scrappy, although Long managed to score. From the kick-off scrum-half Richard Friend caught the ball and passed to Long who charged up the middle of the pitch to score under the post. Goodall then scored his second, again a good individual try. This Sunday at home to Cullompton in the quarter final of the Devon plate, 11am kick-off. Sidmouth U14s 0 Okehampton U14s 10 OKEHAMPTON started much the better side, dominating the line-out, as well as stealing a few against the head in the scrum. They were rewarded with a well taken try by Kevin Dennis. Matt Webber who had an excellent game, caught the ball from the restart, ran through some indifferent Sidmouth players with a couple of formidable hand-offs, and was only stopped short of the line by an excellent Sidmouth tackle. Okehampton were soon rewarded when Rob Stepto barged over to add to his impressive tally for the season, leaving the score 10-0 at the break. The second half saw Sidmouth raise their game. At the same time Okehampton looked to press the ?self-destruct? button. Problems started with too many Okehampton forwards standing out in the back line. If anyone made a break, and was tackled, there weren?t enough forwards clearing out the ruck, leading to several turnovers. What ruck ball was secured was scrappy, leading to poor service from the scrum-half, which in turn put the backs under pressure, leading to handling errors, as players tried to force a pass, or pass out of the tackle. As Sidmouth started to dominate territory and possession, they were unlucky not to score when their player dropped the ball over the line. The Okehampton defence was however very solid with Jack Phare and Merrick Kirby making some excellent tackles to keep a clean sheet. Although this was a much needed win, there is still much to work on for future games.
