AN exciting new nature trail is being launched on Dartmoor next month by TV presenter Nick Baker.

The main man on TV?s Really Wild Show is due to launch the new self-guided biodiversity trail at Brimpts Farm, near Dartmeet, on Tuesday April 6.

The trail takes visitors on a journey through the very special landscape of a Dartmoor farm.

A specially produced leaflet guides walkers around the trail and explains the different habitats along the way. It also highlights the lives of some of the lesser-known inhabitants of the farm, such as the rare high brown fritillary butterfly and the strangely named ?string of sausages lichen?.

The concepts of biodiversity are explained and explored on the trail in a way which is easy for children and adults to understand.

The trail has been supported by a number of organisations, including the Action for Wildlife Dartmoor Biodiversity Project, Dartmoor National Park Authority, the Duchy of Cornwall and the Dart Cycleau Project.

Nick, who is from Chagford, will launch the new trail at 12.45pm, which is followed by a free family walk around the trail between 2pm and 3.30pm. The tea rooms at Brimpts will be open for refreshments and cream teas.

After the launch, the trail will be open to the public all year round. It takes around an hour and a half to complete, with a short-cut available back to the farm at the half-way point.

Visitors should note that as the trail contains stiles and rough ground, it is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
