THE Red and Black Club was the venue for Tavistock Athletic Club's presentation evening, with a buffet provided by club caterer, June, followed by a disco.
Highlight of the evening was the presentation by Keith Reed of Armada Forum to TAC's junior head coach, Adam Tofield, of the 'South-West Young Volunteer of the Year' award. Adam also received the club member of the year award.
Other club awards were as follows: Track and field, female, Heather Fell, male, Richard Drage; Cross country, female, Sue Bratchley, male, Pete Freedman; best newcomer, female, Claire Pitcher, male, John Windermer; effort, female, Anne Woodhouse, male, Ray Bennett; achievement, female, Sheila Houghton, male, Trevor Williams; outstanding, female, Hazel Walker, male, Jim Cole; coach of the year, Lorraine Tofield.
Cathy Ford is TAC's athlete of the month for November. Cathy has been a loyal club member for about eight years and recently has been making a huge effort in track sessions, running strongly and significantly improving her times. In recognition of this, she has been awarded with the club's athlete of the month award.
Club coach Dotty Allan awarded runners her own accolades. Winner of the 'if only my muscles weren't so big I could run faster' award was Rob Moule.
'Supporter of the year' was Diana Bennett. 'Smile of the year' went to Eunice Moule, and Lesley Cowie won the 'head up, shoulders down' award. Claire Pitcher and David Orriss were 'most promising', whilst Megan Fell won the 'You Can Do It' award. 'Moaning Myrtle' was Sheila Houghton, and the 'Dotty you were right' award went to John Marshall. Finally, Dotty's 'hero of the club' award went to coach Keith Bowles.
Tavistock Athletic Club is planning a new race, a half-marathon, for April 18.
Plans are progressing well, and a race training schedule is being planned.
