A KELLY College pupil has won his section at the National Youth Pentathlon Championships at Hartbury College, Gloucester.
The championships, held over the first weekend in August, saw children competing from all over the country. Tristan Hext (pictured left) won the Youth D section with an impressive 4820 points.
Tristan started with a dressage test, followed by a show jumping course, on an unknown horse. Competitors have only 15 minutes and four practice jumps to evaluate their ride before competing.
This was followed by the fencing phase and finally, on the Saturday, by the swim phase.
Sunday saw Tristan on the shooting range for the target shooting at ten metres, followed by a tough 1000 metre run.
Tristan, who fences in Plymouth under the instruction of Andy Hill and is a member of the North Cornwall Pony Club, said this was his best competition result so far in the pentathlon.
