THE family of a 13-year-old Gunnislake girl who was killed in a car crash at the weekend have been paying tribute to their ?bright, lively and thoughtful? daughter.

Talented musician Michele Mansell was on her way to perform with Saltash Town Band when the accident occurred near the Tamar View Garden Centre at Carkeel.

In a statement issued by Michele?s father and stepmother, Paul and Rachael Mansell, they said the Callington Community College pupil had many interests but her passion was playing the cornet for Saltash Town Band.

?Michele will be remembered as bright, lively, kind, garrulous, strong willed and thoughtful.

?She was popular, well liked and we will all miss that mischievous smile.?

Band member Phil Boland said Michele was becoming an accomplished musician. ?She was a credit to her family,? he said.

Michele was travelling in the back seat of a Ford Orion when it struck a hedge and overturned on the A388 at Carkeel at around noon. She died at the scene. The driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident and are asking anyone who saw the F-registered blue Ford Orion prior to the crash to contact MPS Richard Rockey at Plympton Traffic Unit on 08452 777444.
