A POTTERY tree depicting the history of Tavistock was officially opened last Saturday by town mayor Anne Johnson. The ?Charter Tree?, by the archway at Court Gate, took around nine months of hard work by creator Rosie Fierek, from Albaston Pottery. More than 200 pottery sections were placed onto the wall with each individual piece of clay on the trunk of the tree telling a story of Tavistock. The ?Charter Tree?, commissioned by Tavistock Market Charter Group, was chosen early in 2005 by the people of the town. It commemorates becoming a market town with a royal warrant in 1105, and becoming a stannary town 200 years later. More than 100 people attended the official opening. Iain Andrews, who was chair of the market charter group, said: ?The positive comments from everyone were absolutely amazing. Everyone seemed to be bowled over by it ? it looks great.?
