WITH water flowing normally through the repaired storm water drain at the bottom of Callington Road in Tavistock, traffic flows too are expected to resume normality early next week.

South West Water spokesman Stephen Swain said the collapse in the storm water culvert that has caused flooding and misery in local homes since December 11 last year had finally been cleared and water was streaming away as normal.

He said they suspected another block further down the system and would investigate that before finishing the work.

Mr Swain said it had been a very difficult and slow job with the culvert lying some five or six metres underground and torrential rain falling throughout the holiday period. And he said the workmen had had to be very careful since excavations had extended below boundary walls.

The cost of the work is thought to be in six figures and negotiations between West Devon Borough Council and the water company about who will end up footing the bill continue.
