AN error by refuse cllectors this week meant the centre of Tavistock was littered with uncollected bin bags until late on Monday afternoon.
One Brook Street businessman John Follett asked: 'Whatever will visitors to the town think on this the first day of the holidays?
'The main street of the town should not be done last — it doesn't look good does it?'
A spokeswoman at West Devon Borough Council, responsible for the street collections, said they had had a number of complaints. She said Biffa, the contractor, had apologised saying it was a one-off — one of their drivers, new to the round, had gone to Okehampton first by mistake.
Normally collections in Tavistock town centre are undertaken just after 9am to give traders an opportunity to get their refuse out.
