TAVISTOCK's new BMX track came under the spotlight during a meeting in the town last week.
The track has been constructed on the old pitch and putt course in the Meadows, but due to poor weather conditions, it has taken longer than planned to complete.
Town mayor David Whitcomb, during last week's meeting of the town's properties committee, asked works superintendent Wayne Southall if the track was actually ready to be used, as he had seen people riding on it.
Cllr Whitcomb said: 'I was under the impression that the BMX bike track would have to be completed and in my humble opinion, it's not ready to be utilised.'
Mr Southall told the committee that although not completely finished the track was usable, and the more it was used, the more solid the 'humps' would become. Seeding was taking place at the track, he added.
Cllr Brian Trew asked what the situation was regarding liability and insurance and stressed the council's officers should see the appropriate paperwork.
Mr Southall assured members that the youth café had appropriate insurance and he would ensure that the council received a copy of the policy.
