A DETERMINED group of young swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club took part in the Devon County Amateur Swimming Association development galas this year, held at Tiverton, and returned with great results.
Matt Edwards, aged 14, competed in and won four events, all in personal best times (100m back, 100m free, 100m butterfly, 1,500m free), finishing in second place in the BAGCAT (British Age Group categories) awards.
Kieran Rookes took part in five events, again all recording personal best times, returning with a gold medal for 100m back, silver medals for 100m IM, 200m back and 200m free and a fourth place in the 100m freestyle. He was placed in second position in the 12 year old boys BAGCAT awards.
Fourteen year old Alexandra Stoecker finished second in the 800m freestyle and in the top ten in her other four events, gaining personal best times along the way. Harry Thompson, aged 11, came fourth in the 200m breaststroke. Harriet Edwards, 12, gained some personal bests in her four events. Also taking part and gaining valuable competitive experience were Roseanna Milburn, nine, and Caitlin Chapman, 10 years.
