Tavistock Reserves 4
Bude Town 1
TAVISTOCK reserves got their league campaign off to a flying start with a fine victory over visitors Bude Town.
The Lambs took the lead in the tenth minute when Dan Pethick hit an unstoppable shot from the angle of the penalty area which went in the far top corner giving the visiting keeper no chance.
The home team produced some fine football and should have increased their lead when Ryan Fice went close on two occasions.
Both sides produced some good football but the Lambs took a single goal lead into the interval.
Steve Hackett levelled the scores early in the second half, but this stirred Tavistock into action and the stepped up the pace, and tempo in their play, it was not long before Dan Pethick got his second after some fine play between the mid field trio.
The home side increased their lead, when a badly weighted back pass by a defender, was pounced upon by the alert Ryan Fice, who duly lobbed the advancing keeper.
It was Fice again that was causing the visitors defence real problems, and only a brilliant double save by Gary Dinshaw in the Bude goal prevented him from increasing the lead.
John Walton that got the fourth for the Lambs with a header after another flowing move.
Just near the end 17 year-old Jack Crago nearly notched his first goal for the club when his header crashed against the crossbar.
This was a really fine all round team performance by Tavistock Reserves with some really good individual performances.
On Saturday the Reserves are at home to Launceston, kick-off 2.30pm.
