AN IDEA by the mayors of Hatherleigh and Holsworthy to hold a half-marathon has provoked a lot of interest from potential participants.
Hatherleigh?s leading dignitary Dennis Bater and his Holsworthy counterpart Richard Brown came up with the innovation because there is exactly 13 miles between the two towns.
?The idea is in its very early stages at the moment, but quite a lot of people are showing an interest,? said Mr Bater. ?We hope to organise it for next year sometime.
?There used to be an Okehampton Marathon that came through Hatherleigh, but that petered out and it would be nice to start up a new one because lots of people enjoy running in this area.?
He said runners could raise money for charity while taking in the beautiful countryside between the two towns.
?We are interested in hearing from any groups, organisations or individuals who would like to become involved with a Hatherleigh to Holsworthy marathon especially those with any expertise,? added Mr Bater.
