SPORTING enthusiasm has been on display in venues throughout Okehampton this past week, as the town has got into the spirit of the Okehampton Sports and Fitness Festival.
The wide-ranging programme of events organised by OCRA has again proved a huge success.
Stuart Lord, OCRA sports development officer, said: ?All the events have been fantastically well-attended. This year?s football tournament had a record number of teams.
?The ?have-a-go? sessions have been popular, with lots of new faces coming along to the clubs and hopefully they might find something they really enjoy.?
The only disappointment during the week was that a special skating and bike event organised for youngsters at the Okehampton Skate Park on Saturday (July 10) had to be cancelled due to the poor weather.
However, many bikers were not to be deterred and were back the following day to ride the north shore track, put together in the sports field by the Okehampton Mountain Bike Club.
Thirty different sports were on offer throughout the week from football and netball to basketball, fencing, gymnastics and archery.
Stuart said the events had drawn in people of all ages and ability, with a number of activities particularly designed to aid the mobility of older people including Tai Chi and yoga sessions.
In the fishing competition at Spires lake, D Paisey won first prize with a 17lb 11oz catch; S Hockaday was second with a 7lb 4oz fish and D Fewings came third with a 3lb 10oz catch.
