A major £100,000 refurbishment transforming Callington Town Hall into a venue fit for the 21st Century will be unveiled to the public at a civic ball next month, to which all parishioners are invited.
Tickets for the event on May 14 have been reduced from £25 to £15 to enable as many people as possible to attend this showcase evening, which includes a five course dinner and entertainment.
People will no longer have to go through the main hall to get to the committee rooms and other parts of the building as each room can be accessed individually.
A new £25,000 kitchen has been installed and disabled facilities upgraded and a community bar/cafe area created to appeal especially to the teenage generation of the town.
Town clerk Vernon Anderson said he was thrilled with the results:
'I am absolutely delighted with it,' he said.
'It has totally transformed the aesthetics and the usability of the hall.
'All the rooms can be used now without anyone having to interrupt what is going on in the main hall and all the comments we have had so far have been very positive.'
Money for the project has come from council funds which were set aside for this purpose some time ago, and a grant of £25,000 from the SITA Cornwall Trust.
A moveable partition wall separating the hall and bar area means the space is now a lot more flexible, and with the new high spec facilities, the town council hopes to attract wedding celebrations and other special events.
The town hall is already being utilised as an exciting new entertainment venue for theatre and live music and more diverse acts are planned for this year on the back of the refurbishment work.
With the community café facility now available, the town council will be working with the local PACT group (Police and Communities Together) and CATS (Community Action Through Sport) based at Callington Community College to provide the long-term dream of a youth café in the town.
The room can be used by all sectors of the community but hopes are high that there can be regular Friday night cafe for the youngsters, with possibly live music.
'We have things going on for the younger children and the elderly but what we need is something for the teenagers,' said Mr Anderson.
'It is a case of putting the organisation and structure in place for the project but the facility is is now for whenever they are ready to use it.'
