TAVISTOCK Farmers' Market was recently awarded the runner-up prize in the Devon Life Best Farmers' Market 2009 awards.

Over the past few years the farmers' market has been in the top three — and although they narrowly missed out on the top spot this year, members are pleased with the result.

Maria Jones, market manager, said: 'Unfortunately we did not win this year, we were runners-up to Cullumpton, but still very proud of the market for getting into the top three again, which has been consistent over the last few years.

'We were constantly complimented about the market throughout the evening and also the town, with everything it has to offer.

'I was very proud to be there representing the farmers' market but also the town. Fingers crossed for next year.'

Bread of Devon, one of the market's producers, won the best baker award, and another farmers' market trader, Olive Grove Organic, were nominated for best organic producer/trader, but lost out to Riversford Organic.
