A VACANCY has been created on Tavistock Town Council, following the resignation of one of its members last week. Cllr Roy Connelly, a Liberal Democrat member for the Tavistock north ward, announced his resignation last Tuesday. He has served as a town councillor for six years. Cllr Connelly, who is also Tavistock?s county councillor, said his attendance at town council meetings had dropped over the last year. Much of it was due to a conflict of meeting times and dates with the two authorities. ?This meant that I was not able to represent the residents of Tavistock north at the town council in the way that I would demand of myself and others would expect. ?I therefore believe it was in the best interests of those residents for me to give up my place on the town council,? he said. Town clerk Roger Howard said if ten electors demanded an election within 14 days there would be a by-election ? otherwise, a new member would be co-opted to the 17-seat council.
