YOUNGSTERS working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards received a boost from Okehampton Town Council recently as it donated £500 to support their efforts.

Town mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies presented the chair of Okehampton's Duke of Edinburgh Award Open Group Chris Bourne with the cheque to support the work of the group, which promotes teamwork, leadership and life skills for youngsters.

The group has had the support of the mayor since he took office, choosing to support it as one of his two chosen charities for the year.
