REPRESENTATIVES from over 40 groups who help people locally attended a special evening of celebration for Okehampton United Charity and Okehampton Educational Foundation on December 11.

One hundred and eighty people attended the event in the OCRA pavilion in Simmons Park.

OUC chairman Allenton Fisher welcomed guests with mulled wine and mince pies before they looked around stands by a number of local organisations and sports clubs, including Okehampton Royal British Legion, Museum of Dartmoor Life, the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, and the Dartmoor Railway Supporters' Association.

Guests enjoyed entertainment by Okehampton Acoustic Club, Wren Music, Aunt Fanny's Handbag and the Courtenay Players. Thirteen local young sportspeople were awarded polo shirts to celebrate their achievements in a wide range of sports, including hockey, cricket, table tennis, muay thai boxing, basketball and judo. The event was supported by OCRA and the Inner Wheel.

The chair and trustees of the charities are looking forward to 2014, when they hope to support more projects in Okehampton, Brightley, Southcott, Meldon and Stockley.
