Duchy 6

Tavistock Hockey Men's B 1

IT was Tavistock's first league game of the season and they carried with them a 100% win ratio from pre-season friendlies so they were fired up for the match.

Tavistock began absorbing a lot of pressure from the home side but centre backs Wheatley and Cowan were resilient. Tavistock conceded four short corners within the first ten minutes but keeper Osbourne was letting nothing through.

Tavistock then had two shorts or their own, one of which their keeper only just got his hand to after Cowan tried lifting it into the top corner.

After having some attacking play Tavistock conceded about 20 minutes in when the defence was exposed on the counter. Glanville came on for debutant Tom Hanson at right back but he fell for the dummy inside and left keeper Osbourne alone and so conceding a second. The home side managed to get a third before the half time.

A refreshed Tavistock team came out after halftime with debutant Hanson moving to the left wing where he was influential in creating a lot of attacking play.

But Duchy countered to score another two goals.

Tavistock continued to battle though and got a short corner from their efforts. Reynolds pushed out to Cowan who saw Curno eager to strike, he made no mistake as he hammered the ball into the jaws of the goal.

The final whistle blew after Duchy had secured the game with a sixth goal but Tavistock were not too disheartened as they knew they had been up against a good squad.
