SEVERAL weekends ago I was helping out at the cheese event at Tavistock Town Hall, handing out leaflets etc.

Being a Sunday I was amazed by how many people were about. Not all coming to taste the cheese. Approximately 30 people both English and other nationalities stopped me, asking me for directions to Dartmoor, looking for accomodation etc.

Being a Sunday I could understand why the Tourist Office was closed. I have since heard that it is being closed permanently, due to lack of funding. I wonder if this has been given serious thought by both the local council, residents and business people?

The implications of not offering such a service. will be very serious.

I would think some lateral thinking is called for; there must be some way of keeping such a service open in what is one of the gateways into Devon.
