LAST weekend Clare Short and Liz Vernon travelled to Woolacombe in North Devon to run in arguably one of the most spectacular, beautiful and hilliest events in the UK!
It was one of the hottest days of the year making the North Devon AONB event very challenging indeed. The route was mainly along the South West Coast path or along tracks and trails through some outstanding countryside.
West Devon's Clare Short did the 26.2 mile Marathon event in 5 hours 19 minutes tackling 3,300ft of climbing and Liz Vernon did the 13.1 mile half marathon in 2hrs 47mins, managing more than 1,300ft of climbing.
Clare said: 'This is the first marathon I have ever done and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was extremely lucky along the coast path to see two peregrine falcons enjoying the amazing sunshine too – very special!'
The event was held to raise money for the North Devon Hospice who care for local patients and families suffering from the impact of life threatening illnesses.
