Bodmin Trophies Duchy league Division 2 cup; 1st round Lamerton 3 Tywardreath 1 HAVING already beaten their visitors in the league in an extremely close match, Lamerton were expecting another tough game and they were not disappointed. Tywardreath playing good one touch football and operating as a unit dominated the first quarter of an hour without creating any clear-cut chances. Lamerton gradually got into the game and a foul on Paul Cowling on the edge of the box lead to Kev Swift converting a rather tame free kick. Tywardreath keeper Dave Olley soon made amends with some excellent saves as Lamerton created further chances, particularly from a fierce volley by Swift. Tywardreath deservedly equalised after 15 minutes of the second half when Dave Greet ran through the Lamerton defence and crossed the ball for man of the match Martin Jones to tap in. With the bobbly pitch, remarkably recovering from the previous week?s hammering, not suiting the Lamerton strikers, Steve Wickett and Pete Broomfield were introduced into the action. It was Broomfield who impressively broke the deadlock when he latched onto a loose clearance and deftly chipped the keeper with his left foot from outside the box. The visitors then put Lamerton under great pressure in the last five minutes and were unlucky when Matthew Hicks hit the underside of the crossbar. There was just time for Broomfield to hit an accurate through ball to play in Wickett, who made it three and killed off the plucky visitors. It was a cruel result for Tywardreath, for whom Dave Hooper excelled in midfield, but Lamerton, with Will Cann outstanding, and Paul Breyley making some good forward runs from the back, progressed into the next round.
