2312 (TAVISTOCK) Squadron Air Cadets were delighted when ex cadet David Johnson agreed to visit and give a talk on his work in the Royal Air Force.

David was a Cadet Warrant Officer at the squadron before joining the RAF as a survival equipment fitter. Senior Aircraftsman David has already visited the Falklands the Gulf and America since joining five years ago.

He brought a display of equipment needed to survive at sea and in the jungle which cadets were able to get hands on. David explained the use of current survival packs, showing cadets how to make a fire and use the rations in the emergency survival pack. He went on to explain the importance of water and the equipment used for desalination. The boiled sweets went down well with the 30 cadets present!

Currently stationed at RAF Brize Norton, David hopes to organise an overnight survival exercise for the squadron in the future. He spent the weekend after his visit at a monitoring station for the Ten Tors event.
