IN strong wind and heavy rain Bere were made to work hard for this result as lowly St Mawes put up the shutters.

Against the wind Bere continually dropped the ball onto St Mawes' central defender, hit it upfield or came up against an in-form keeper.

At times St Mawes' goal bore a charmed life as desperate defending defied the odds.

Altering the angle of centres changed the game, as Steve Westlake headed home a low centre to calm the nerves.

More pressure led to Ross Hann scoring. Steve Daymond raced clear, stopped, sent the keeper and defender to the left, changed feet and set them right, charged again and left them on the floor to roll the ball home.

St Mawes kept plugging away but Ross Hann lobbed the keeper and for once the wind took the ball into the net.

This Saturday Duchy division at home to St Teath, 2.30 kick-off.
