A WEST Devon cheese manufacturer is celebrating the win of another prestigious award for its Tickler extra mature cheddar. The latest recognition for Tickler, made by Taw Valley Creamery at North Tawton, came at The Grocer magazine's 'Branded Excellence Awards'where Tickler won the cheese category ahead of brands such as Cathedral City lighter cheddar, McLelland Seriously Strong mature cheddar and Just Delicious extra mature cheddar. The awards were held last Wednesday, at London's Landmark Hotel. The awards were judged by a consumer panel and a panel of trade experts, using the criteria of taste, texture, appearance, packaging, value for money and clarity of label. Tickler is an extra mature, cheddar. Launched in February last year, in order to target the premium quality sector of the branded cheese market, Tickler is aimed at cheddar connoisseurs. Sales to date have far exceeded expectations with distribution now secured across the UK in leading retailers such as Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose and Morrisons. Neil Kennedy, managing director of The Cheese Company, which owns the creamery, said: 'We're delighted to have won this award with its focus on taste, provenance, packaging and overall branding. Since its launch last year distribution and sales of Tickler have grown strongly and we have plans to introduce further branded offers in the next 12 months.'
